Coelestinus

Atheism, humanism, feminism, and science dominate in my little corner of the world. My personal brand of science is ecology and evolutionary biology, focusing on conservation through environmental education. Feminism and humanism go hand in hand, and for me, atheism tags along with both. I've only come to define myself as a humanist recently (before that, I knew the philosophy, but not the word), but I've considered myself an atheist, a feminist, and a scientist for many, many years.

South Dakota Bill Would Mandate Religious Conseling Prior To Abortion

The abortion debate in this country has gotten to absolutely ridiculous and disgusting levels. I am honestly ashamed of the fact that in Ohio they are trying to push through the heartbeat bill and even having a fetus testify in court. It is enraging. It is almost entirely religiously motivated, yet I’m told as an Atheist I should just live and let live…fucking hypocrisy.

|:

“Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between Man & his God, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legitimate powers of government reach actions only, & not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should ‘make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof,’ thus building a wall of separation between Church & State.”

- Thomas Jefferson, from his letter to the Danbury Baptist Association.

I’m all for letting the fetus testify, immediately after it produces proper  identification, states its name for the court, and takes the oath.

A law that would mandate religious counseling. A law. That would mandate uterus owners to submit to some condescending biased bullshit from a person who is not a doctor or other health professional but just wants OMG BABIEZ to be alive or whatever. This is disgusting and an abomination of Church & State.

Ahh…nothing more than the Church sticking it’s nose where it does not belong and our shitty leaders (whom we appointed) allowing it to happen.

U-S-A U-S-A U-S-A

You know, I read this post here right after reading this article (Ohio House passes a bill to make abortion illegal when a heartbeat can be detected, which is around six weeks) and I just fucking can’t.
